If you have existing windows, Insulation may be bypassed since there are possible air leaks that are present, and these could limit the efficiency of the wall especially if your home has numerous windows. Any form of air leaks, be it small or big can cause energy wastage so try to fix those, major issues first. Check the frame and the sides of the windows. Look for any edges where air can enter. Check also outside and see if there are any areas where the air could take an exit. The most popular options to make the windows air tight is by means of weather stripping and caulking. The latter one uses airtight compounds and they fill the cracks and holes. Remove any old caulk and dirt in the hole and then apply the material. You can also surround the sides and frame edges with caulk to ensure that no air can exit through these areas.
